The stories transmit through the swamps of the Congo, Western Zambia, and Angola. Some call it a stork or bat. Some call it a living fossil. There are those who claim to have been attacked by flying dinosaurs. So many drawings. So many eyewitnessed testimonies. What is true?

Barely more than a century ago, of the time that flies, a lost tribe, its name now unknown, wandered into a deep cave near the Congo. They traveled down into this cave's belly, where it was unnaturally cold. There they found the cadaver of a reptile behemoth from prehistory. The flesh was impossibly preserved by the cold...and by other, stranger forces.

These men and women, they were so hungry. They ate the ancient flesh. Something stirred within. Something hatched! Night after night, they brought more members of their tribe down below, and each was given the chilling communion. Each took in the primordial flesh. Eventually, everyone in that tribe was converted.

The changes began slowly. The web of the hand expanded. A single finger on each hand stretched excruciatingly long. Their mouths elongated, their teeth fell out - followed fast by something sharper. Those first flights were clumsy, sweetling. We saw! We saw. And when the pale glow filled their eyes, the same glow that filled that chthonic cave, they could very nearly see us.

This tribe of pterosaur people took to the night skies. They grew graceful. They hunted. They found new communions of flesh.

Then came Marquard. He approached these Kongamato without fear. He offered them a new communion, one of spirit. They accepted. They jointed him in his plans. They fly above the New Dawn compound now and other places besides.
